Chocolate cauliflower smoothie sounds like a combination that ought to taste unmistakably like vegetables. It does not have to. When the cauliflower is plain, the avocado is ripe, and the blender runs long enough, they build a thick, creamy base while pure cocoa and raw honey provide the flavor you actually notice.

This is one measured smoothie with two serving routes. Use frozen cauliflower and avocado for a cold glass, or simmer and drain the cauliflower for a warm mug. The amounts stay the same either way, so you can choose the temperature that fits the morning without keeping two recipes straight.

With six children, work, and homeschool, I appreciate a recipe that explains the decision before the blender starts. The cold route is quick and thick. The warm route takes ten extra minutes at the stove and finishes hot without simmering. Both routes tell you exactly what the mixture should look like before you pour it.

Where This Chocolate Smoothie Fits On GAPS

This recipe is for occasional Later Full GAPS, after digestive symptoms are gone and each ingredient has already been introduced and tolerated. Pure organic cocoa is the ingredient that places it later. Use cocoa without sugar, milk powder, flavor blends, gums, or other non-GAPS additives.

Avocado, cauliflower, natural sea salt, raw honey, and homemade milk fit Full GAPS. The milk must be homemade full-fat coconut milk or properly prepared homemade nut milk. Canned coconut milk and packaged plant milks do not belong in this card.

Industrial collagen powder is not part of this version. GAPS builds collagen from homemade stocks, broths, and gelatinous meats. Two raw pastured egg yolks provide the raw protein and fat element used in a one-person GAPS shake instead. The recipe does not use monk fruit, stevia, maple syrup, carob, MCT oil, mineral drops, or commercial chocolate pieces.

How Cauliflower And Avocado Build The Texture

Use 1 1/4 cups plain frozen cauliflower rice. Avoid seasoned steam-in-bag blends because even a small amount of added flavor will come through in a two-cup drink. Frozen cauliflower has a mild flavor and gives the cold route its body.

Half a ripe avocado thickens the mixture and smooths the edge of the cocoa. For the cold route, freeze the avocado in small chunks so the Ninja can pull it into the blades without leaving a warm center. For the warm route, use room-temperature avocado after the cooked cauliflower has cooled from hot to merely warm.

The finished texture should be thick enough to leave a soft mound for a second when it falls back into the pitcher, yet loose enough to pour in a steady ribbon. If you can still see white cauliflower flecks, green avocado streaks, or dry cocoa pockets, keep blending.

Use Pure Cocoa And Raw Honey

Start with 1 1/2 tablespoons pure organic cocoa powder. The recipe works with up to 2 tablespoons, so the card lists another 1/2 tablespoon as optional. Blend the smaller amount first, then add the extra only when you want a darker cocoa flavor.

Use one tablespoon raw honey for the measured sweetener. Cocoa tastes more bitter when the drink is cold, while the warm version tastes rounder and more aromatic. Keeping the honey amount fixed lets you compare the two routes before changing the formula.

Two pinches of natural sea salt sharpen the cocoa. One tablespoon properly prepared homemade nut butter is optional. It makes the drink richer and slightly thicker, but the avocado and egg yolks already provide enough body for the recipe to work without it.

Choose The Warm Or Cold Route First

For the warm route, place the frozen cauliflower rice in a small stainless saucepan with two cups filtered water. Bring it to a boil, reduce to a steady simmer, and cook for ten minutes. Drain it thoroughly, then let it cool until it is warm rather than hot before it goes into the Ninja BN801. The smoothie returns to the saucepan after blending and is heated until hot but not simmering.

For the cold route, keep the cauliflower frozen and use frozen avocado chunks. There is no saucepan step. The frozen vegetables provide the chill and thickness, so no ice is needed and the one-cup milk measurement stays intact.

Natural coconut oil or raw butter is an optional one-tablespoon addition for the warm route. Leave that optional fat out of the cold route because it firms when chilled and can leave small waxy pieces instead of disappearing into the drink.

Load The Ninja BN801 In This Order

Pour one cup homemade milk into the pitcher first. Add the prepared cauliflower, half avocado, two raw pastured egg yolks, cocoa, raw honey, sea salt, and optional properly prepared nut butter. For the warm route, add the optional natural coconut oil or raw butter here.

Liquid at the bottom gives the stacked blade room to start moving the dense ingredients. Secure the lid before blending. Do not put hot cauliflower or hot liquid into the Ninja pitcher; cool the cooked cauliflower to warm, blend, and use the saucepan for the final heating step.

Blend Until No Pale Streaks Remain

Blend on high for about 40 seconds. Stop and look through the pitcher. The mixture should be one even chocolate brown from top to bottom, without white cauliflower grains, green ribbons, yellow yolk, or dry cocoa on the sides.

If a pocket sits above the blades, stop the machine, let the mixture settle, and blend again briefly. The surface may hold a few tiny bubbles, but it should not be airy or piled into a stiff foam.

Finish The Warm Version

Pour the smooth mixture into the rinsed stainless saucepan. Heat over medium-low, stirring often, until it is hot throughout but has not begun to simmer. Small wisps of steam appear, the cocoa smells fuller, and the mixture remains glossy rather than forming cooked specks.

Pour into a heat-safe mug and serve at once. The warm drink should be creamy and pourable, with no cauliflower texture and no skin on the surface.

Finish The Cold Version

Pour the cold blend straight into one large glass. It should move slowly but continuously from the pitcher. Serve immediately while it is uniformly cold and the frozen cauliflower and avocado still hold the thick texture.

For another cocoa-and-avocado drink with a different formula, use the Full GAPS Chocolate Avocado Milk. For a fruit-based option without cocoa, the Strawberry Orange Banana Smoothie follows a separate whole-fruit route.

Storage And Serving

This smoothie is best immediately after blending. The cold version loses some of its thick frozen texture as it stands, and avocado can darken. If you need to hold it briefly, cover the glass and refrigerate it until later the same day, then stir well.

Keep any unheated blended warm-version base covered in the refrigerator and finish it the same day. Reheat it gently in the saucepan, stirring until evenly hot without simmering. Do not repeatedly cool and reheat the drink.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cocoa Allowed On GAPS?

Pure organic cocoa powder is an occasional Later Full GAPS ingredient after digestive symptoms are gone. Use it plain, without sugar or additives.

Can I Use Carob Instead?

No. Carob is a separate ingredient and is not the cocoa substitution for this card. This measured formula uses pure organic cocoa.

Why Is There No Collagen Powder?

The official GAPS guidance prefers collagen from homemade stocks, broths, and gelatinous meats over industrial hydrolysed collagen powder. This drink uses two raw pastured egg yolks as its GAPS-shake ingredient.

Can I Use Store-Bought Coconut Milk?

No. Use homemade full-fat noncanned coconut milk or properly prepared homemade nut milk. Stir homemade coconut milk before measuring if the fat has separated.

Will The Smoothie Taste Like Cauliflower?

Plain frozen cauliflower is mild, while avocado, cocoa, honey, and salt carry the finished flavor. Blend until no white flecks remain; visible cauliflower pieces also create the strongest vegetable texture.

Is The Nut Butter Required?

No. It is optional. If you use it, choose homemade nut butter from properly prepared nuts and keep the measured amount at one tablespoon.

Can I Put The Warm Ingredients Straight Into The Ninja?

Let the cooked cauliflower cool from hot to warm before blending. The Ninja BN801 handles the blending step, and the stainless saucepan handles the final heating.

Is This A Weight-Loss Drink?

This WFLI version is written as an occasional Later Full GAPS smoothie. It makes one two-cup serving and does not make a weight-loss or meal-replacement promise.

Can I Double The Recipe?

Use the WPRM 2× control for doubled amounts. The BN801 pitcher has room for the doubled base, but blend only within its marked maximum liquid line and divide the batch if the frozen ingredients sit above it.
