Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. frozen ripe pineapple chunks or frozen melon
  • 3/4 c. frozen strawberries or frozen raspberries
  • 1-2 tbsp fresh ginger root finely grated or minced; choose the amount to taste
  • 2 pinches sea salt
  • 1/2 c. homemade full-fat coconut milk stirred before measuring
  • 3/4 c. filtered water
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice

Equipment

  • Ninja Professional Plus Kitchen System BN801
  • Stainless-steel measuring cups and spoons
  • Fine stainless-steel ginger grater
  • Stable wood cutting board and stainless-steel knife
  • Small glass prep bowls
  • Two clear serving glasses
  • Wooden spoon for a stopped-blender air pocket

Method

  1. If freezing fresh pineapple or melon, cut it into small chunks, spread in one layer, and freeze for at least 3 hours.
  2. Measure the frozen pineapple, frozen strawberries, ginger, sea salt, lemon juice, homemade coconut milk, and filtered water. Keep the coconut milk and water separate until loading the blender.

  3. Put the frozen pineapple, frozen strawberries, ginger, and sea salt into the completely dry Ninja BN801 pitcher first.
  4. Add the 1/2 cup homemade coconut milk, 3/4 cup filtered water, and fresh lemon juice. Seat the pitcher securely on the base.

  5. Blend on low, then increase to medium-high, for a total of 40 to 50 seconds, until no large fruit pieces remain and the smoothie is uniformly pink-coral with fine berry flecks.
  6. If an air pocket forms, turn the machine off, remove the pitcher from the base, stir once with a wooden spoon, remove the spoon, replace the lid, and finish blending.
  7. Pour evenly into two glasses and serve immediately between meals.

Notes

  • Full GAPS: Serve between meals after raw fruit is introduced and stool is consistently normal.
  • No added sweetener: Leave out maple syrup and do not replace it with an unmeasured sweetener.
  • Coconut branch: Keep the exact 1/2 cup homemade coconut milk plus 3/4 cup water ratio.
  • Other liquid branches: Instead use 1 1/4 cups homemade milk from properly prepared macadamias or almonds, later-tolerated homemade hemp milk, or filtered water alone.
  • Fruit branches: Frozen melon may replace pineapple at the same amount; raspberries may replace strawberries at the same amount when their seeds are tolerated.
  • Scaling: At 2x, use 3 cups frozen pineapple, 1 1/2 cups berries, 2 to 4 tablespoons ginger, 4 pinches salt, 1 cup coconut milk, 1 1/2 cups water, and 2 tablespoons lemon juice. Blend in batches if needed.
