Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings: 2 servings
Course: Beverage, Breakfast
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 cup homemade coconut milk cooled and stirred before measuring
  • 3 pastured eggs whole, raw; crack into a separate bowl first
  • 1/4 cup pure organic cocoa powder unsweetened, without other added ingredients
  • 1/4 cup plain ground flax meal ground meal, not whole seeds
  • raw honey to taste
  • 1 tablespoon homemade yogurt whey finished liquid whey from homemade 24-hour yogurt, not whey protein powder
  • 2 cups ice
  • 1 cup filtered water cold
  • 1 pinch sea salt

Equipment

  • Ninja BN801 blender Cold ingredients only; split 2x into two batches.
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Small bowl for cracking eggs
  • Two serving glasses

Method

  1. Stir the cooled homemade coconut milk and measure one cup. Crack the eggs into a separate bowl and remove any shell. Measure the remaining ingredients. Start with finished coconut milk and yogurt whey.
  2. Put all ingredients in the Ninja BN801 pitcher with a little raw honey. Fit the lid and blend until the ice is broken down and the drink is evenly chocolate-colored.
  3. Stop the blender and check that no large ice pieces, dry cocoa pockets or separate egg-white strands remain. Taste, add more honey if wanted, and blend again to distribute it. Fine flax flecks can remain.
  4. Divide between two glasses and serve immediately. At 2x, divide every doubled ingredient between two separate blender batches rather than overfilling the pitcher.

Notes

GAPS placement: Occasional Later Full GAPS, once digestive symptoms are gone and cocoa and flax meal have been introduced. Use pure organic cocoa. Not Intro or No-Plant GAPS.
Prepared ingredients: Start with cooled homemade coconut milk and finished homemade yogurt whey. Their preparation is additional to the five-minute blend.
Eggs and dairy: This version uses three whole raw eggs and homemade yogurt whey. It contains eggs and dairy; coconut milk does not make it dairy-free. There is no nut ingredient.
Flax: Measure ground flax meal, not whole seeds or a cup of soaked seed gel. The quarter cup belongs to this two-serving batch.
Sweetness: Add raw honey to taste and blend it through before tasting again. No collagen peptides or whey protein powder is needed for this food-based egg version.
Texture: Blend until evenly brown with fine ice and no powder pockets or separate egg white. Fine flax flecks can remain. Flax thickens the drink as it stands.
Doubling: The doubled recipe makes four servings. Split all doubled ingredients between two blender batches and stay within the Ninja pitcher fill limits.
Serving: Serve immediately after blending. Prepare and refrigerate the coconut milk and whey ahead rather than storing a batch of finished smoothies.
