Chocolate Banana Nut-Butter Shake for Later Full GAPS

A thick dairy-free chocolate banana shake with homemade coconut milk or coconut water, pure cocoa, cinnamon, prepared nut butter, homemade vanilla, and optional raw yolk.
Servings: 1 large shake
Course: Dessert, Drink
Cuisine: GAPS

Ingredients

  • 1 fully ripe brown-spotted banana sliced into small pieces and frozen
  • 1/2 cup homemade noncanned coconut milk or coconut water
  • 1 heaping tablespoon pure organic unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon homemade GAPS vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 level tablespoons properly prepared nut butter
  • 3 ice cubes about 1/2 cup when crushed
  • 1 fresh raw egg yolk optional
  • 1 small handful prepared chopped macadamia nuts, pecans, or walnuts optional; add after blending

Equipment

  • Small knife and cutting board
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Ninja Professional Plus Kitchen System BN801 single-serve cup, compatible blade assembly, and motor base
  • Small silicone spatula
  • Clear serving glass

Method

  1. Peel a fully ripe brown-spotted banana, slice it into small pieces, and freeze the pieces in one layer until solid.
  2. Pour 1/2 cup homemade coconut milk or coconut water into the BN801 single-serve cup. Add the frozen banana, heaping tablespoon cocoa, homemade vanilla, cinnamon, two level tablespoons nut butter, three ice cubes, and optional raw egg yolk. Keep the optional chopped nuts out for now.
Frozen banana, coconut milk, cocoa, prepared nut butter, cinnamon, and three ice cubes loaded in the Ninja BN801 cup
  3. Secure the blade assembly, invert and lock the cup onto the base, and begin with short pulses. Blend until evenly cocoa brown, thick, and smooth with no banana pieces, dry cocoa, ice chunks, or nut-butter streaks.
  4. Return the cup upright before removing the used blade. The cup walls and blade should be coated with the shake.
Smooth chocolate banana shake near the 400-milliliter mark in the Ninja BN801 cup beside its used coated blade
  5. If using prepared chopped nuts, fold in one small handful with a spatula after blending.
  6. Pour into one large glass and serve immediately while thick and frosty.

Notes

Later Full GAPS: Pure organic cocoa is occasional only after digestive symptoms are gone.
Liquid: Use exactly 1/2 cup homemade coconut milk or coconut water.
Egg-free: Omit the optional raw egg yolk and keep all other measurements the same.
Yield: One large shake; the source does not state a volume.
