Ingredients

Equipment

  • Kettle or small stainless-steel saucepan
  • Heat-safe glass or ceramic steeping vessel
  • Flat ceramic plate or fitted lid
  • Four-cup liquid measuring pitcher
  • Large glass serving pitcher
  • Long stainless-steel or wooden spoon
  • Six drinking glasses

Method

  1. Bring 4 cups water to a boil. Put 4 additive-free ginger tea bags in a heat-safe glass or ceramic vessel, pour in the boiling water, and cover. Steep for 15 minutes.

  2. Uncover the vessel. Press or squeeze the tea bags back into the liquid, then remove them. Let the ginger tea cool until it is no longer hot.
  3. Measure 4 cups unfiltered freshly pressed apple juice and confirm that the cooled ginger tea still measures 4 cups. Keep them in separate supported vessels until both are ready to combine.

  4. Pour the apple juice into a large glass pitcher with room for at least 8 cups plus stirring space. Add the cooled ginger tea and stir until the color is uniform.
  5. Taste the drink. Stir in 2 tablespoons raw honey only if you want the optional sweeter version. Keep stirring until no honey remains at the bottom.
  6. Chill the pitcher for about 3 hours if possible, then serve over ice. You may also pour it over ice as soon as both liquids are cool.

Notes

Raw honey is optional. Use additive-free ginger tea bags rather than an unmeasured fresh-root infusion. The three-hour chill is optional once both liquids are cool. This drink contains no potassium chloride and is not an electrolyte formula.
